Unconventional Honeymoon Destinations

For today's installment of #honeymoonhumpday , we're exploring some of our favourite unconventional honeymoon destinations for the outdoorsy couple.

One for the unconventional is the Igloo Village at Kakslauttanen in Lapland - it's quite a hoof to make it all the way to the top of the world, but if you time it right, you could spend your honeymoon in a glass igloo, admiring one of nature's seven natural wonders of the world from the comfort of a bed and lounge in the warmth that only man-made

If you're not a big fan of the almost voyeuristic aspect of the glass igloos, the resort also offers standard houses, 'earth cabins', snow igloos and cabin/igloo hybrids which come available in November this year offering the privacy of a cabin with the novelty of the glass igloos.

Channel Meryl Streep and Robert Redford in Out of Africa at the Singita Sabora Tented Camp in Tanzania. You of course have the option of staying in more conventional rooms but then this post wouldn't be about the unconventional! The intimate 1920s style explorer's camp is steeped in rich character and provides an opulence that is in stark contrast to the rugged terrain.  Spot cheetah, bearded wildebeest,  black rhinos, Maasai giraffes, lions, elephants and more walking through the camp.

If you're the couple who love road trips, why not hire a vintage Airstream and drive your way across the United States, stopping only where you want to stop and staying as long as you want courtesy of the freedom of this drive-your-own way holiday.

Green Wedding Shoes provided this link for listings of vintage airstreams for rent. The route though is all up to you.

Perhaps you feel like camping but the idea of bugs, tents and camp cookers just doesn't work for you - The Churches Conservation Trust offers "Champing" (camping in out-of-service churches) for about $90 per head (USD) which makes it a cheaper alternative to hotel accommodation and you can hire them out for exclusive use. The churches (as stated by the Churches Conservation Trust) "are living time-capsules, with stories that can be traced back as far as the Saxon period, and centuries of history to explore. They present the perfect setting to explore England’s culture, heritage and craftsmanship throughout the ages." Read more about Champing here

While in America, why not try out the Atlanta Treehouse? A suite of three connected treehouse rooms within the secluded Atlanta neighbourhood of Buckhead. You'll find  your treehouse among lush greenery, beautifully furnished with antiques, natural artifacts and the complete immersion in nature - just minutes from downtown in case it gets a bit too "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" for your liking.

How about an entire house made of bamboo? This all-bamboo hut, set within the valley of Bali's sacred Ayung River in the Green Village is part of a master-planned community of high-end bamboo villas. This villa, called "Sunrise House" has an incredible open-air master bedroom with a bathtub alongside the bed as well as two other bedrooms within the expansive house in case you're not keen on the open-air aspect.

Solscape

Solscape in Raglan, New Zealand offers a Tipi Forest with Tipis in five different sizes and comfort levels to suit your style of camping. Whether it's a basic Tipi with a futon bed on a poured earth floor or a Bush Belle Tipi with carpeted floor and Queen futon, the Tipi Forest offers a way to reconnect with nature without relinquishing all the comforts of home. Solscape is so close to Raglan beaches, Solscape is perched alongside the water for ultimate viewing potential and convenient beach access.
